4 Magical Snacks to Banish Back to School Hunger!
It’s finally September, which means one thing for parents – back to school, and the snacks that come with it! You have survived six long (and hopefully fun!) weeks of your little ones being at home, and now you’ve waved them off with their new backpacks, school shoes and pencil cases for another year of learning. But once the final bell rings, the first thing they tell you isn’t about their day, or what they have learned, but is inevitably; “I’m hungry!” Fear not – we have put together a list of our favourite super easy and magical superhero and fairytale themed snacks to help banish hunger, and win you some serious parent points!
Fruit Skewers
Not only is this a fun way to make sure your little ones are getting their five a day, it’s also very easy to throw together after a busy day! For a superhero theme, choose fruit in the colours of their favourite superheroes – we love the idea of blackberries and pineapple together to represent Batman’s black and yellow suit! For a fairytale twist, why not make fruit fairy wands, topped with a watermelon star? Perfect for casting a spell to make rumbly tummies disappear!
If plain fruit isn’t exciting enough, these are also great for dipping in yoghurt, chocolate spread, or any other favourite dip!
Cinderella ‘Pumpkins’
When we saw this idea on the Flowering Farmhouse’s blog about hosting a Princess Party, we knew it was just too cute not to share! These adorable Cinderella pumpkins are so simple to make, and we think they look so effective! All you need are some small oranges or tangerines, and some celery sticks to pop in the top as the stalk. You could switch this out for cucumber if your kids don’t like celery.
For days when something more substantial than an orange is needed, you could even combine these with the carriage wheels from the Crummy Mummy’s blog! These are also super simple to make, just using wraps and a filling of choice – the fiddly bit is rolling them up neatly!

Super Sandwiches
Another super easy but fun idea is to purchase some cookie cutters in princess or hero shapes, and make some mini sandwiches to fill up those hungry tummies! Sandwiches of course taste better when they’re cut into fun shapes, and the possibilities are endless – Hobbycraft have some really fun princess and mermaid shapes, and we love these superhero themed cutters that we found on eBay.
Of course, the fun doesn’t stop at sandwiches – you can use these for baking, cutting cheese for crackers or pizza toppings, fruit, cake decorations…
Thor’s Hammer Snacks
For your superhero loving littles, we think these Thor’s Hammer snacks from Plan Eat Move are so much fun! All you need are pretzel sticks, and either string cheese, or some cheese cubes to put together into a hammer shape!
A sweet version could also work well if you need a little treat – why not try with chocolate fingers for the handle, and a marshmallow or strawberry for the hammer?

We hope that some of these fun ideas help with after school hunger, and bring a smile to your childrens’ faces! What better than a fun snack themed after their favourite characters to finish a busy day of learning! Of course, grown ups are encouraged to taste test them as well..!
These snacks would also be perfect for a princess or superhero themed party! If you’re thinking of planning a celebration but don’t know where to start, check out our blog all about Planning a Perfect Party.
